Civics 101 Happy Hour
Wednesday April 26, 7-9pm
At a moment when it feels like more of us want to engage in influencing the decisions that are made in this country, we thought this would be a great time to brush up on the ‘basics’.
Join us for an interactive discussion, which will likely cover an overview of the founding ideals of American society, identify problems in our communities where America is not living up to those ideas, and seek to solve those problems with political action. We will look at how you shape your individual role in the larger purpose of creating a more just society. In order to do this we will – among other things - go over what are the rights and responsibilities of citizens or people living and working here? How does voting work and why is it important? How can you most effectively influence decision-makers? How would you run for office, if you are thinking about it?
Yom Odamtten Fox will be our resident civics expert tonight. Yom is a high school history teacher and Global Initiatives Director at The Dalton School, where she specializes World History and local and global civics. Recent long term projects with her students have included in depth study of Alexander Hamilton and a series on global development and service learning using the UN's Sustainable Development Goals as a lens towards civic participation, adopted by all member states in 2015.
Erica Carroll has spent much of her adult life working on international development issues such as economic justice, climate justice and gender equality, and for the last four years has been working in diplomacy at the United Nations. Her passion for and desire to learn more about US domestic political and social issues led her to organize this event.
This event is free, but please RSVP if you plan to attend so we can plan for your arrival!
Pink Full moon in Libra Manifestation Meditation: Expansive, inclusive and loving relationships.
This full moon is all about love and love and more love! This is huge, cause Jupiter is all over giving us the chance to expand even more through all of our relationships.
We will meditate deeply into the vibration of expansion by being our own authorities: not anymore putting the power outside of us, setting for unfulfilling relationships and putting ourselves in a lower or upper level. This is about being equal, seeing the divine in me in the the other's eye. This is about expanding and growing with sharing joy to embrace our uniqueness through commitment to ourselves and therefore manifesting long lasting, true and amazing relationships. Let's dive together to hug our beloved self and identify whats our truest power for us to share and embrace.
All Maria's manifestation meditations include a single tarot card reading to identify where your relationship with yourself is at right now so we can see what you are attracting.
FreeJoin us as we expand our events to our Canal Street Market location! Wellness Consultations, Tarot, Ayurvedic Beauty and the JL Skincare Launch Party!!!

ABOUT WHITNEY CRUTCHFIELD,
Founder + Designer + Maker of WE GATHER:
I have been a textile lover ever since my mom taught me how to sew a reversible Barbie skirt in our basement in rural Michigan. Since then, I have been deeply influenced and led into this fascinatingly intertwined textile community by a number of strong, talented women and men.
After obtaining a MFA in Fibers and enjoying the clean air of Colorado, I landed in Brooklyn, and it instantly felt like home. My textile obsession has materialized here in a number of different ways, including crafting at Martha Stewart, teaching at the Textile Arts Center, FIT, and Parsons School of Design, and most recently designing printed textiles for a major teen apparel retailer.
My heart and passion, however, were not in the world of mass production and fleeting trends. So, with over ten years of weaving and dyeing experience under my belt, I turned my efforts fully to creating objects that last, textiles that we can be with and touch, things that become imbued with memory and simple meaning and remind us of the joys, excitement, and comfort that we experience together.
I relish in celebrations of any kind, from the smallest accomplishment to the most monumental life event, so much so that, in addition to being the designer and maker behind We Gather, I am also a registered wedding officiant in New York City, spreading the love in any way I can.
Fast facts:-optimism is my strong suit
